THE CLASH I fought the law {1979}

I Fought the Law” is a song written by Sonny Curtis of The Crickets and became popularised by a cover by the Bobby Fuller Four, which went on to become a top-ten hit for the band in 1966 and was also recorded by The Clash in 1979. {Wiki}

THE SAINTS (I’m) Stranded (1977)

SAVAGES Husbands

Sounding a lot like Siouxsie Sioux, this band is really tantalising.

Thanks to Shirley Manson from Garbage for letting me know about them.

DAVE McCORMACK AND THE POLAROIDS featuring BEN CORBETT (from SixFtHick, and Gentle Ben and His Sensitive Side) cover ‘I’m Bored’. Not only is Ben Corbett possibly the best frontman I’ve ever seen in any band ever, this video is a perfect example of why I think that’s so. He gives 110% no matter what he’s doing, even if he’s singing a cover in someone else’s band. Also potentially shows the less glamorous side of Australian pub gigs ;)

THE CREATURES Prettiest Thing (Siouxsie Sioux and Budgie from The Banshees, live on Jools Holland in 1998)

SIOUXSIE AND THE BANSHEES Candyman (From one of my favourite albums, Tinderbox, released in 1986. This was the band’s seventh studio album.)

SIOUXSIE AND THE BANSHEES Christine (from the album Kaleidoscope, released in 1980)

SIOUXSIE & THE BANSHEES Love in a Void (Live, 1979) < Such an unbelievably powerful influence on women like myself who grew up in the ’80s. My band endeavours and those of my girlfriends at the time strongly replicated this era of Siouxsie Sioux.

SIOUXSIE & THE BANSHEES Hong Kong Garden < Live in Koln, July 1981. Will be posting a few of Siouxsie’s videos today in honour of her birthday - 27/5.

SOUTHERN DEATH CULT Faith #WorldGothDay

Joy Division - She’s Lost Control (1980). With their militaristic clothing, punk guitar, abrupt percussion, monotone drone, introspective and dark lyrics, Joy Division was a new culmination of industrial gothic punk. You can understand why they made such an impact on the music listening populous when you consider in the same year - in the US - ‘Please Don’t Go’ by KC and the Sunshine Band was number 1. In the US, ELO and even The Grateful Dead were still popular. It’s like the UK was a different planet and one, back then, I wished I lived on.
